Could Israel’s far-right succeed in moving Palestinians out of Gaza? | DW News

Israel’s National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir has proposed what he describes as a programme of “voluntary emigration” that would see most of Gaza’s Palestinian population leave the territory. His plan envisages around 1.86 million people departing Gaza within seven years, with agreements negotiated with countries willing to receive them. Yet none of the countries named by Ben-Gvir’s party have indicated any willingness to participate. So how will this proposal affect Israeli politics ahead of next month’s election? We speak to DW correspondent Tania Krämer in Jerusalem about the political motivations behind the plan and to Marco Longobardo, Professor of International Law at the University of Westminster, about whether this is compatible with international law.
