Could a leftwing populist candidate become new mayor in the German capital? | DW News


Voters in two German states go to the polls Sunday for regional elections that could have national consequences. In Berlin, the candidate from the far-left populist Left Party could become the city’s new governing mayor. And in the former eastern state of Mecklenburg-West Pomerania, it’s too close to call between the incumbent Social Democrats and the far-right Alternative for Germany.
