Talarico says ‘old politics is dying’ after Senate win
Democrat James Talarico won election Tuesday to the U.S. Senate, where he will represent Texas.
“Old politics is dying, and a new politics is being born through each of us, through every underdog, through every David against every Goliath, through every Texan who believed in our state and believed in this movement,” Talarico said during his victory speech on election night. “Now, the real work begins.”
Talarico’s win over Republican Ken Paxton represents the first time a Democrat has won a statewide office in Texas since 1994. Democrat Gina Hinojosa also unseated longtime GOP incumbent Gov. Greg Abbott on Tuesday.
