Pope Leo eating, recovering after cancer surgery

The Vatican says Pope Leo is eating and walking again following surgery to remove a cancerous portion of his lung. Officials say his recovery is proceeding as planned.

The 71-year-old pontiff was diagnosed with a common form of lung cancer that is often highly treatable when detected early.

Leo is scheduled to visit Latin America next month, including Peru, where he spent two decades as a missionary.

“There’s just not a proper effort on safety, robustness, reliability,” Ames told Horizons host William Brangham.
