How abortion restrictions and law enforcement collude ‘to target the most marginalized’
Post-Roe America continues to produce shocking stories. In a dispatch on her Substack, “Abortion, Every Day,” Jessica Valenti tells the story of a mother who tried to help her 14-year-old daughter get a legal abortion across state lines, only to have the teen removed from her home by Child Protective Services. University of Pennsylvania law professor Dorothy Roberts says this story reveals the collusion of abortion restrictions and what she calls the “family policing system.” “The government can weaponize it in order to target the most marginalized groups,” Roberts says, with the end result of “forcing children and women to have children against their will.”
