25 years after 9/11, survivors fear the memory is fading | DW News
As the United States marks the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks, some survivors worry the event is slipping from living memory. Nearly 3,000 people were killed when al-Qaeda terrorists hijacked four airliners on September 11, 2001, targeting New York, Washington and Pennsylvania. Orthopedic surgeon Dr. Gordon Huie, who helped treat victims after the attacks, later developed cancer linked to Ground Zero exposure and lost his sister Susan in one of the Twin Towers. We examine how 9/11 shaped modern America and ask what could be lost as a generation grows up with no memory of that day.
