2 scientists awarded 2026 Nobel Prize for Chemistry
Two scientists won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry on Wednesday for their work on so-called mirror image molecules — those that look and behave alike, but cannot be superimposed on one another.
Henri Kagan from France and Kenso Soai from Japan solved a century-old mystery on how chemical reactions can be used to favor a single molecule over the other.
Their work is hugely important for developing pharmaceuticals. The Nobel Committee called the pair’s findings a feat, saying that no one else has been able to achieve what they have other than “life itself.”
