Just hours before officially taking over as the new Mayor of New York, an announcement by Zohran Mamdani has triggered a massive conservative backlash. This is over the appointment of Ramzi Kassem, a civil rights lawyer and law professor at New York’s City University as his top legal advisor.
He says Kassem is someone who is committed to protecting those too often abandoned by our legal system, and chose him for Chief Counsel, one of the most powerful roles in City Hall.
The issue some people have is that the Syrian-born academic who served as an immigration advisor in the Biden government is also the lawyer who once defended an al-Qaeda terrorist.
