‘Ordinary’ materials will get glow-up in new Met Gala theme

The biggest night in fashion has a new theme for 2027.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art announced today that it will showcase ordinary items and materials like jeans or plastic and how designers transform them into fashion.

The show is called “extraORDINARY: Fashion and the Poetics of the Everyday.”

It replaces a planned exhibit focused on the works of British designer John Galliano. That show was scrapped in August after an outcry over his past antisemitic and racist comments.

As customary, the new exhibit will be launched by the star-studded Met Gala next May.
