SCOTUS allows for third-country deportations
The Supreme Court is allowing the Trump administration to continue deporting migrants to countries other than their own, for now.
Tuesday’s order temporarily lifts an appeals court decision that said migrants should get a chance to object before they are sent to so-called third countries. The high court’s order is a win for the Trump administration, which has argued that the practice is necessary to remove dangerous criminals.
An estimated 25,000 migrants have been deported to more than two-dozen countries during President Donald Trump’s second term.
The justices will hear arguments on the issue in December.
