What are Flock cameras and why are they controversial?
Flock cameras are license plate readers, created by Flock Safety, that record a vehicle’s details and its location.
“An automobile is a proxy for you,” Byron Tau told Horizons host William Brangham.
Many Americans have pushed back against the technology as states and counties across the country start using the cameras.
Tau, an investigative reporter with ProPublica, said part of that backlash comes from a “growing sense among Americans that everywhere they go, they’re being monitored.”
