How a ‘sea of conflicting’ ideas shape masculinity
Men are in a “sea of conflicting ideologies” about what it means to be a man, author Jon Ronson says.
“It’s as if, you know, there’s some primordial revulsion when a man moves away from his position as, like, stoical provider,” he told PBS News’ Geoff Bennett. “Then you turn on the TV, … and men in TV ads are just like doofuses who can’t do anything right and have to be bailed out by their exasperated wives. So I get it. I get why men don’t really know who they are.”
Ronson looks at what happens to men when they become detached from society in his new book, “The Castle: Adventures in a World of Unraveling Men.”
