Hillary Clinton on her hopes for Democrats in the midterms
With the midterm elections approaching, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said she’s “not bothered” by the current divisions among moderates and the more progressive wing of the Democratic Party.
“I think that debate within a political party is healthy,” she told PBS News Hour co-anchor Amna Nawaz on Friday, in response to a question about whether public divides among Democrats are fueling Republican attacks. “We are not members of a cult. We are independent-thinking Democrats, and what I’m hoping is that we have a significant victory in the midterms.”
If the Democratic Party regains control of Congress after November’s vote, Clinton said her hope is that the party, “from one end of the spectrum to the other, gets to work because that’s really what matters.”
If there are differing ideas on how to provide quality, affordable healthcare to Americans, “let’s write the legislation. Let’s have the debates. Let’s get into committees,” she said.
“People can have different political views, but share a lot of the same goals,” she added.
