Why the U.S. medical system is ‘broken by design’

The United States health care system is “broken by design,” says Dr. Lucy McBride.

“We need to prioritize prevention,” she told Horizons host William Brangham. “The system is broken by design. No matter what your politics are, it just is.”

“There’s a lot of money being made by sick care,” McBride, a primary care physician in Washington, D.C., added. “I’m not a conspiracy theorist; that’s just what the data shows. We prioritize damage control medicine and not prevention at the expense of American health.”
