A powerful magnitude 7.7 earthquake has struck off Indonesia’s Flores Island, triggering tsunami warnings and prompting authorities to urge people in vulnerable coastal areas to move to higher ground.
According to the US Geological Survey, the earthquake was centred around 68 km north-northwest of Ende in East Nusa Tenggara. Strong aftershocks have also been recorded following the initial earthquake. Indonesian authorities are monitoring the situation as assessments of damage and possible impacts continue.
