Abdul El-Sayed wins Michigan’s Democratic Senate primary
Abdul El-Sayed has won Michigan’s Democratic Senate primary, defeating Rep. Haley Stevens in a close – and closely watched – race.
The win is seen as a key victory for the progressive wing of the party in a battleground state. El-Sayed will now face Republican Mike Rogers in the general midterm election.
At a news conference Wednesday, El-Sayed turned his attention to the November contest, and running against Rogers.
“As bitter and as divisive and cynical as the campaign against us might have been, I want us to realize there’s so much more that unites us now,” he said. “Because the campaign that Mike Rogers and Donald Trump and their GOP MAGA allies are launching is already more bitter.”
