It has been seven months since an audacious U.S. raid into the heart of Caracas turned Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro into a detainee and defendant in a U.S. courtroom.
President Donald Trump declared after the operation that the U.S. would “run” Venezuela. But is the U.S. interested in helping transition power back to the Venezuelan people?
“The political transition and the full restoration of democracy [and] free elections in Venezuela is essential,” Andres Martinez-Fernandez, a senior policy analyst for Latin America at The Heritage Foundation, told host Nick Schifrin.
He said later that “this movement of socialism, anti-Americanism, has no future in Venezuela under free and fair elections, and I think that’s important.”
