CDC confirms Taco Bell tied to cyclosporiasis

The CDC confirmed on Thursday that an outbreak of the cyclospora parasite is linked to shredded iceberg lettuce from Taco Bell locations in Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and West Virginia.

The lettuce came from Mexico, and is tied to a single unnamed supplier.

Cyclospora is a foodborne parasite that causes cyclosporiasis, an illness that can result in severe and prolonged diarrhea.

More than 30 cases have reported cyclosporiasis cases already this year, and the CDC says it is still investigating other potential sources of the illness that could be unrelated to lettuce served at Taco Bell.
