Big tech firms that laid of thousands of employees to make room for AI are now realising one thing – sure, they need to use AI, but they definitely need to ration it.
Until a couple of months ago, most big firms wanted their employees to increase AI usage, and many made it part of the mandate, even offering perks for using the technology. However, this seems to be changing now, as firms realise the real cost of actually deploying AI.
In the latest incident, Amazon has shut down an internal leaderboard that tracked employees’ use of AI tools after workers tried to boost their scores with unnecessary activity that ended up increased the company’s computing costs.
