He made millions at a private prison. Now he runs ICE.


This week, the Trump administration named David Venturella the acting director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Venturella spent 22 years inside immigration enforcement before leaving in 2012 for GEO Group — the private prison giant that holds roughly a third of America’s immigration detainees under federal contract. In February 2025, he walked back into ICE. The Trump administration granted him an ethics waiver to do it.
