How Americans feel about inflation right now


Americans are worried about their finances right now, according to the latest PBS/NPR/Marist poll, and the latest Consumer Price Index report probably won’t be reassuring.

Inflation is up by 3.8% over last year, driven by high fuel prices. In our latest poll, 63% of Americans said the economy isn’t working well for them. Eight in 10 said higher prices at the pump were causing a strain on their budget, and more than half said the cost of living for the average family in their area is not affordable.

That’s causing trouble for President Donald Trump, whose economic approval rating has plummeted since his first term, said Lee Miringoff, director of the Marist Institute for Public Opinion.
