Hantavirus fears spark Tenerife protests as cruise ship Hondius heads to the island | DW News


After being stranded off the coast of Cape Verde, the ill-fated cruise ship is now en route to the Canary Islands for an evacuation. Despite authorities’ reassurances that the risk of infection is low, protests have erupted in Tenerife over the planned docking. DW spoke with Emily Gurley, she is an epidemiologist at the Johns Hopkins University, as well as the virologist Muhammad Munir of Lancaster University about what happens next—and how concerned the public should be.
