Spirit Airlines prepares to shut down #shorts
Spirit Airlines’ efforts to secure a $500 million rescue package from the federal government fell through Friday, a last ditch effort to save the budget airline.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Spirit will cease operations starting at 3 a.m. Eastern on Saturday.
This is the second bankruptcy for the carrier in less than a year. Conflict in the Middle East and a spike in jet fuel prices was an added pressure point. The airline has been in business for more than 40 years, rebranding as “Spirit Airlines” in 1992.
For more on what this means, Geoff Bennett spoke with David Shepardson, an aviation, transportation and technology correspondent at Reuters.
