Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has sharply criticised the Centre’s plan to link women’s reservation with the delimitation exercise, calling it “political demonetisation”.Speaking in the Lok Sabha during the debate on the Women’s Reservation Bill and Delimitation Commission, Tharoor warned the government against rushing the redrawing of parliamentary and Assembly constituencies.He said the BJP-led Centre is repeating the same haste seen during the 2016 demonetisation and urged: “Delimitation will turn out to be political demonetisation. Don’t do it.”Tharoor argued that tying a widely supported women’s reservation reform to the highly contentious delimitation process is unnecessary and could damage cooperative federalism, especially affecting southern states.
